Let's get ready for Xmas
With the summer a mere and distant memory our thoughts turn to the winter and the festive season. It's that time of year for enjoying the festivities, so with some careful planning and my top tips i hope to help you avoid the chaos and set the scene for FUN FUN FUN.
A good area to start the planning is in the home and the first thing to do is sort and pack away your spring/summer wardrobe, checking first that everything is clean and that no mending is necessary. If item is more than two seasons old and you know you will not wear it next year, have a car boot sale or drop items off to a charity shop or donate to a local fate or church jumble sale.
This is also an ideal time to sort your Xmas decorations. Start by throwing away damaged or broken items. if you feel like treating your Xmas tree to a new theme year, give existing decorations to local schools or an old peoples home as there is often no funds in their budget for luxuries such as new decorations and they will make good use of them.
The High Street will often have last years decorations at half price to make room for this seasons new ranges, so take advantage of this and stock up on the bargains, then co-ordinate with a few new season items for a totally new look.
Encourage the children to sort out their bedrooms, trying to re-cycle as much as possible.
De-frost the freezer, another one of those jobs we always mean to do but never get around to it, making room for all those extra purchases we all seem to make at Xmas.
Now the evenings are drawing in, its an ideal time to get in the kitchen with the children to do some home baking together. What better than making mince pies and sausage rolls. The only drawback to this is they seem to disappear when the washing up needs doing.
Xmas can sometimes seem very commercialised,so why not bring back that personal touch with my TOP TIPS.
Get in an early festive mood by visiting a Christmas market or check local pres for craft fairs in your area. Here you'll find a range of gift ideas, decorations, traditional crafts and festive foods.

Dates to Remember
Nothing can replace that personal touch at Xmas so look up some recipes for some old fashioned favourites, fudged ,chocolate truffles ,coconut ice and peppermint creams just to name a few. Fill a pretty storage jar and finish with some ribbon for that prefect prezzie.
Start writing your Xmas list now, set your budget and stick to it. Remember to cross names of the list as you go to avoid costly mistakes.
Set aside one evening a week when the whole family can be gathered together. Turn off the TV and dust off those boards games, let each family member choose a different game each week or swap games with friends and family.
Finally the mood this coming season is luxury and opulence, look for dark dramatic jewel colours such as reds & Burgundies ,purples ,teal ,gold and rich dark chocolate. Lift the look using lots of texture in velvets, satins and brocades. Delicate beading, sparkling sequins and glistening crystal will give an exquisite finish, perfect for the winter holidays.
